Taylor Swift’s ‘RED’ Sells 1.2 Million Copies In One Week

Taylor Swift’s latest album, RED, has been out a little over a week, and it has already made major sales records. Billboard reports that RED moved over 1.2 million units in its first week, which is the most any album has sold in a single week since Eminem’s The Eminem Show (2002). In just one week, it’s the third-best selling album of 2012 (behind Adele’s 21 and One Directions Up All Night) and best selling country album of 2012 (topped Lionel Richie’s Tuskegee).

Taylor is the only female artist to have two million-selling weeks; her first was 2010’s Speak Now (2010). She is the third country female artist to have three No. 1 albums.

RED boasts the second-largest sales week from a female artist–only behind Britney Spears’ Oops!…I Did It Again (2000). It’s the 18th album to sell a million copies in a single week (since SoundScan began tracking sales in ’91).

Congrats to Taylor & her brilliant marketing scheme.
