Game adopted a chant that was popularized during Muhammad Ali and George Foreman’s legendary bout, The Rumble in the Jungle, and used it as the title for a bass-heavy song included on his Jesus Piece album. “Ali Bomaye” means “Ali, kill him,” which is parallel to the song’s sinister concept and Florence + the Machine sample (“Seven Devils”).

Were you, like me, under the impression that Kanye West still produced his beats or that John Legend left G.O.O.D. Music? If you answered “yes” to both questions, then John’s recent sit down with the infamous Breakfast Club will surely clear up some confusion for you.
When describing the process, John revealed that Kanye focuses more on tweaking others’ beats, as opposed to crafting them himself. He followed by putting things in perspective for the trio, who were looking to blow the statement out of proportion.  Read More »

Prompted by a protest storm, Rick Ross is desperately trying to distance himself from glorifying violence against women, specifically date rape (see: “U.O.E.N.O.”). He has kind of apologized via tweets, failed to justify himself in interviews and even said “I f**ks with no sex offenders” in a new song, but quasi-critics are unyielding. I’m not sure what they expect from a rapper that has re-released the same song his entire career, but they want Reebok, one of Rick’s endorsers, to stop promoting him.
This will sound insensitive, but in all honesty, I couldn’t care less about the grotesque, date rape-endorsing lyric and this delayed urgency to boycott Rick Ross, a lyrically handicapped, “misguided 40-year-old” former correctional officer. His Rasta transformation into Snoop Lion prompted the reggae-inspire “No Guns Allowed,” which features his adorable 13-year-old daughter Cori B. and Drake adds a verse.
