Kendrick Lamar unveils the video for his Janet Jackson-sampled “Poetic Justice,” a song that appeared on good kid, m.A.A.d city. The video sees Lamar, a modest lyricist, flirting with the song’s muse, a lovely, unconventional model.
In the vein of John Singleton’s Boyz In Da Hood and Poetic Justice, things quickly become tragic. Somehow, K. Dot is shot rushing to ensure his girlfriend’s safety. Unfortunately, she was already dead.
By the end of the video, Kendrick’s dead body rests on top of his dead girlfriend’s. She kept her iPhone in hand despite being filled with led. On it was a sentimental voicemail from Drake, who recorded it in his lush pad. I guess that’s the poetic justice.
