Alicia Keys is currently overseas on a promotional run for her forthcoming album, Girl On Fire (11/27). Earlier this evening, the “Girl On Fire” lit up the stag at The Roundhouse in London for the iTunes Festival. The Grammy-winning diva performed a string of her classics, including “Fallin’,” “A Woman’s Worth” and a reggae version of “You Don’t Know My Name.”
However, the tune that stole the show is quite possibly her most introspective song yet–“Brand New Me.” She co-wrote the song with budding talent, Emeli Sandé, who also contributed to Keys’ “Not Even the King.” The lyrics are subtly directed to people who have negatively criticized in regards to her life decisions.
“I don’t need your opinion, I’m not waiting for your okay/I’ll never be perfect, but at least now I’m brave. Now my heart is open, and I can finally breathe. Don’t be mad, it’s just a brand new kinda free. That ain’t bad–I found a brand new kinda me. Don’t be mad, it’s just a brand new time for me.”
