- Young Jeezy, 35, realized he’s a “grown-up now” and decided to drop the “Young” from his moniker. Personally, I think it’s a sensible and necessary decision. I’m planning a few changes around these parts as well.
- Meanwhile, Jeezy appears in YG’s video for “My Nigga” alongside Rich Homie Quan. YG’s My Crazy Life hits stores on November 19th.
- Speaking of the Future-sounding entertainer, Quan raps about “Narcotics” on a snare-heavy, SOS-produced track. The “Type of Way” rapper addresses the similarities between him and Mr.
Bugatti Bentley on “Another Me.”
- Nicki Minaj is trying her best to prove she’s indeed a rapper. Seemingly, the “Stupid Hoe” rapstress is taking every job that comes her way like J.Lo. She and her ever-changing style appeared in two videos that premiered this week—DJ Khaled’s “I Wanna Be With You” featuring Future and Rick Ross and Wale’s “Clappers” featuring Juicy J.
- While the Feds watch 2 Chainz, the NSA spies on MGMT—at least that’s what’s going on in the outlandish trailer for their self-titled third album. A possum also loses its wits in their bathroom.
- Kid Cudi and Pusha T passed up on “Vortex,” an aurally pleasing, WZRD-produced track, so King Chip plugged it into his 44108 mixtape. It’s truly a treat.
- In hopes of scoring a radio hit, Kid Ink recruits his RCA label-mate Chris Brown for “Show Me,” a slinky track produced by DJ Mustard. It’s a bit basic and formulaic, but infectious enough to grab casual listeners.
- After 12 weeks at number one, Katy Perry dethrones Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” with “Roar,” her 8th Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 record. Elsewhere on the chart, Eminem roars in at No. 3 with “Berzerk.” These three subpar songs being well-received by the masses is indisputable proof that music is in a very bad place.
- Danny Brown—the guy that let a fan “blow” him on stage—is releasing his Old album on September 30th. Today, he unveils the cover art, which is a painting by Leila D’Amato. Sam Chimside for Doubleday & Cartwright handled the design and layout.
- I bet you didn’t know Kanye West knows how to use Photoshop. He’s so skilled, he created 2 Chainz’s B.O.A.T.S. II: Me Time album cover himself. 2 Chainz said his ‘all I want for my birthday is a big booty guh’ partner is so skillful with the editing software that he’s ‘slick a geek.’
- A$AP Rocky can’t seem to keep his hands to himself. The rapper that introduced Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ “Same Love” performance slapped a female fan while walking through a crowd of dancing fans at Philadelphia’s Made In America festival. The unidentified girl subsequently filed a criminal complaint, claiming she suffered whiplash, and Rocky has been charged with misdemeanor simple assault.
