  • Brains, Beauty & Bloopers Courtesy of Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey is a hoot! A pop star who possesses brains, beauty, talent and personality is a rarity, so the Songbird Supreme should be celebrated as the worldly treasure that she is.

Pre-cast Carey shared a blooper reel of herself taping video liners for “#Beautiful” after a 14-hour work day in May. The video is for MC’s loyal “Lambily,” but common folk can appreciate her off-the-cuff, quirky moments too. You may even learn a thing or two—like the definition of “rancidity” or how to politely tell someone to “STFU” in Spanish. Read More

6 Vines I Watched Entirely Too Much This Week: Snakes & Hitchhiking Neighbors

    Mon, Jul 29th, 2013 |  Leave A Comment »

On June 20th, micro-vlogging enthusiasts immaturely announced Vine’s time of death when Instagram launched a video-sharing feature. Soon after, it became the consensus among most of these enthusiasts, myself included, that Instagram’s 15 seconds were 9 seconds too long. (Except this one.)

Twitter user @erinscafe said it best: “Vine is to YouTube what Twitter is to Facebook.” Vine’s simplicity is alluring, and it’s 6-second video limit is intimidating in that it pressures you to be creative, similar to Twitter’s infamous 140 characters. Read More

Jay Z To Harry Belafonte: “My Presence Is Charity”; Belafonte Responds

    Mon, Jul 29th, 2013 |  1 Comment »

Usually, Jay Z makes arrogance, ignorance and greed-filled statements and people drink the Kool-Aid because he’s Jay Z, the most powerful rapper in Hip Hop. Those who dare challenge anything he says or does will be unjustly tried for treason, found indubitably guilty and eternally shamed as a hater. However, when speaking with Rap Radar’s Elliott Wilson in an interview posted on Jay’s own website, Jay said his “presence is charity” and likened himself to President Obama in response to Harry Belafonte’s criticism of him and his wife Beyoncé’s contribution, or lack thereof, to the black community, and a lot of people weren’t feeling it.

I also abhorred Jay Z’s comments in the interview and his lyric referring to a man who has done more for people than most of us can fathom as a “boy.” Typically, I’d dissect the entire interview and expose the ignorance, but I have faith that my brothers and sisters who defend everything Knowles-Carter-related will recognize Jay’s smug, shallow, misguided point of view without my unsolicited input this time. Danity Kane (Sans D. Woods) Hits The Studio

    Fri, Jul 26th, 2013 |  Leave A Comment »

Four years after hanging themselves on national television, it seems Danity Kane, one of three failed groups Diddy formed on MTV’s Making the Band, has loosened the noose and revived themselves. Unfortunately, one of the two obscure members is noticeably missing from these pow-wows—Wanita “D. Woods” Woodgett. Read More

VH1 Releases ‘CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story’ Trailer

    Thu, Jul 25th, 2013 |  2 Comments »

VH1 is celebrating the greatest girl group of all time with a biopic starring Lil’ Mama, Keke Palmer and Drew Sidora as Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, Rozanda “Chilli” Thomas and Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins.

The trailer for CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story is very promising. It showcases the leading ladies reenacting TLC’s most iconic videos. Despite the backlash, I don’t think the casting could have been better, and the production is impeccable. Read More

    Childish Gambino Drops “Centipede”

    Tue, Jul 23rd, 2013 |  Leave A Comment »

A couple of weeks ago, I was sitting around watching season 3 of Community and wondered aloud: “where the hell is Childish Gambino?! His rhymes are better than 95% of the bullshit I receive in my inbox every day.” So I tweeted him a few dots, which if translated means: “where TF you at, my nigga?”

Coincidentally, I sent him that tweet two days prior to him announcing his Community departure. Perhaps Donald Glover’s translation of the dots were: “you suck on Community! Abed deserves better!” Hopefully not, though. Read More

Jason Derulo Drops “Talk Dirty” Ft. 2 Chainz

    Tue, Jul 23rd, 2013 |  1 Comment »

It’s no secret that Jason Derulo is a poor man’s Chris Brown, but who predicted that a day would come when Jason made better music than Chris?

Jason’s latest single, “Talk Dirty,” is a bit more creative than Chris’ latest single, “Love More.” Derulo’s “I got lipstick stamps on my passport/I make it hard to leave” may be borderline corny, but it’s superior to Brown’s “‘Til we get it right, we gon’ fuck some more.” Read More
