Justin Chatwin Makes ‘Shameless’ Exit
Fiona Gallagher’s break-up to make-up relationship with Jimmy Lishman may be officially broken when Shameless returns on Showtime in early 2014.
Producer John Wells made the announcement during a TV Academy Emmy panel on Tuesday night. A Showtime rep followed up by telling THR that Justin Chatwin may return for one or two episodes.
This casting detail is shocking but not surprising. It was safe to assume Jimmy was sliced and diced after boarding the boat with his wife Estefania’ ruthless, drug lord father. However, since there’s a possibility of Chatwin’s return, perhaps the writers/producers/whoever make these type of decisions will keep Jimmy around to answer a few questions and ultimately, give Fiona some closure.
Honestly, though, I prefer Jimmy gone. Chatwin’s Jimmy has been a perpetual liar and on-again, off-again conman throughout the series—which is shamefully acceptable on this show—, but he killed the vibe beyond reprehension in season 3. He went from telling Fiona, “You make me want to enjoy my life again,” and being the Gallagher clan’s support system, to asking Fiona to abandon her brothers and sisters.
There was really no coming back from that. Bye, Jimmysteve.
