Although many consider Miguel the Prince of our time, the burgeoning funky singer considers the comparison an overstatement. Opinions aside, it is a fact that Miguel offers uniqueness and authenticity in his music, something his contemporaries fail to execute.
He displays this distinctiveness in his video for “Adorn,” a song that appeared on his Art Dealer Chic EP and will appear on his forthcoming album, Kaleidoscope Dream (Oct. 2).
In the video, the relaxed-hair divo invades a smoky, abandoned school where cheerleaders cheer as he seduces masked women and runs from back-flipping gymnasts. I’m not particularly fond of the video, but I’m sure somewhere behind the complication, it has sentimental meaning for him.

Teyana Taylor, 21, paid homage to her idol, Janet Jackson, by recreating her iconic 1993 Rolling Stone cover. With the help of actor and photographer Lance Gross, Teyana modernizes Janet’s already-timeless work of art, which was shot by Patrick Demarchelier. Janet was 24 when she posed for the shot.

Days ago, Tamia braved the rain in New York’s Springfield Park for SummerStage. The criminally underrated songstress ran through some of her slow-burning records, including “So Into You,” “Can’t Get Enough Of You” and “Still.”
The R&B chanteuse sang More’s “Questions” with a “lil” twist–a Lil’ Kim twist. She gave a sassy rendition of the song over Kimmy’s “Crush On You” beat. Before Mother Nature rained on everyone’s parade, Mrs. Hill sensually covered Michael Jackson’s “Human Nature.” She ended the set with her latest single, “Beautiful Surprise.” Read More →
Iggy Azalea ‘put everything in a suitcase one day, ran away to the runway to find somewhere to land her heart’. Her heart found a home at T.I.’s Grand Hustle imprint. The Aussie rapper and model follows 2011’s Ignorant Art with Glory, an EP with six new tracks.
Glory is a great reintroduction for Iggy. She covers a number of avenues with six tracks: “Millionaire Misfits,” “Murda Bizness” and “Me, Myself, My Money” are braggadocios records that could easily get spins in the club; “Runway” and “Glory” are relatively introspective and may impress doubters; and “Flash” will certainly add a crude edge to her demure presence.

Future catered to the streets with “Tony Montana,” the club with “Same Damn Time” and the ladies with “Turn On The Lights.” Notice the emphasis on ladies (with an –S). In the video, the Atlanta rapper seduces two women and things get complicated very quickly (for him and anyone watching). Read More →

Once a year, MTV celebrates music and the videos accompanying it with an annual ceremony, the Video Music Awards. At last year’s ceremony, Beyoncé revealed she was pregnant with her first child and Lady Gaga made Britney Spears enormously uncomfortable as Jo Calderone.
This year, MTV plans on creating a spectacle by incorporating actual music-related occurrences. Although details regarding the event are still relatively vague, it has been announced that soulful diva Alicia Keys and Brit-pop sensation One Direction have been booked to perform. Read More →
John Mayer strolls westward through various terrains in his video for “Queen of California,” the second single from his latest album, Born and Raised. The nomadic cowboy occasionally stops to jam out with his band. By the end of the video, it’s revealed that he’s indeed filming a music video.
Although the album experienced a grand amount of success, John hasn’t been able to promote it properly due to an injury to his vocal cords. The soulful crooner has taken an indefinite break from live performing until his throat heals properly, which won’t be any time soon. He will undergo another surgery at the end of August.
To compensate fans, he has packaged an EP of four in-studio acoustic performances and a new song, “Go Easy On Me,” that will be available to purchase on iTunes on August 7th. Read More →
