Sylvia Robinson, Co-Founder Of Sugar Hill Records, Dies At Age 75

This morning, Sylvia Robinson, co-founder of Sugar Hill Records and culture-acclaimed “Mother Of Hip Hop” died at the age of 75. Leaving a stain on the music industry, especially hip-hop, Robinson and husband, Joe, founded the record label in 1979 and is responsible for the mainstream success of The Sugarhill Gang‘s “Rapper’s Delight“-known as the first hip-hop record. In addition, she was a key player in the release and recognition of Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five’s “The Message.”

Her presence as a pioneer and innovator as a music executive has influenced the likes of moguls today such as L.A. Reid, Russell Simmons, and Jay-Z. Yes, a woman, who worked so diligently and passionately that men looked to her as a role model.
