Hidden Gem: T.I. Ft. The Neptunes ‘What’s Yo Name’

TI Im Serious Cover

T.I. is among an elite group of rappers that dominated the charts without sacrificing his integrity as a hip-hop artist. However, since his release from prison, he has found it hard regaining his musical popularity. With a stale mixtape and singles failing to generate any buzz, fans are forced to relish in Tip’s past projects. One project in particular is his debut, I’m Serious.

Tip, who was 20 at the time of the LP’s release, told stories of a young man growing up in the streets of Atlanta. Many listeners (myself included) may not have experienced what he detailed, but his illustrative storytelling was so vivid listeners could easily visualize the story. Looking back, I’m Serious is one of the more underrated rap debuts in recent history.

Listen: T.I. Ft. André 3000 ‘Sorry’

An Outkast reunion is as likely as the predicted rapture, but it’s quite refreshing to have new records from both halves of the legendary Atlanta duo. And that’s not the only commonality between the two songs; T.I. delivers surprisingly memorable verses on both songs: Trouble Man’s “Sorry” and Big Boi’s Ludacris-assisted “In The A.”

On the former, André 3000 theoretically recalls apologizing to Big Boi for taking an extensive break from the limelight.

This the type of shit that’ll make you call your rap partner and say “I’m sorry I’m awkward–my fault for fuckin’ up the tour/I hated all the attention so I ran from it/Fuck it if we did, but I hope we didn’t lose no fans from it.”

“It’s risky business in the A!” Big Boi has mobilized fellow Atlanta legends T.I. and Ludacris for “In the A,” a cut from his forthcoming Vicious Lies And Dangerous Rumors (12/11) album. Each rapper attacks the bass-heavy production and states their claim of being the best to ever grace a studio.

T.I. Covers December Issue of BILLBOARD

T.I. Billboard December

Atlanta’s own Trouble Man, T.I., jets to the cover of Billboard magazine in support of his long-awaited eighth studio album in stores this winter.

On the cover, Tip is quoted saying, ”People keep expecting me to fail. I’m going to continue to be huge.” Trouble Man: Heavy is the Head is led by singles, “Go Get It,” “Trap Back Jumpin,” and “Ball” featuring Lil’ Wayne.

Elsewhere in the issue, T.I. reveals that Will Smith reached out to the Obama administration in hopes of granting him an early release. Read the excerpts below.

T.I. Unveils ‘Trouble Man: Heavy Is The Head’ Album Cover & Tracklist

T.I. has struggled to grasp listeners’ attention regarding his forthcoming album, Trouble Man: Heavy is the Head (12/18). As part of his Trouble Tuesday series, the King has unveiled the album cover and tracklist for the record. Veteran acts Lil’ Wayne, André 3000, R. Kelly, P!nk and Cee Lo Green are among featured guests on the LP. Newcomers Meek Mill and A$AP Rocky also make an appearance.

The cover design is like a vintage, grungy western movie poster. T.I. appears as a gunman on the sketched artwork. He totes a transparent gun that exposes money, a fancy car, a pitbull, naked women and various things that distract men who attract trouble.

T.I. Talks Recording With André 3000 In Tree Sound Studios

TI Tree Sound Studios

Tree Sound Studios of Atlanta boasts clients ranging from Outkast, Usher and Ludacris, to Whitney Houston, Beyoncé and TLC. T.I.’s André 3000-assisted “Sorry” was conceived in the studio. In a past interview, Tip claimed 3K’s verse is his best outside of an OutKast album. If that doesn’t make you eager about listening to Trouble Man (12/18), I don’t know what will.

Watch below as a seemingly stoned T.I. talks recording with Dré 3K.

Listen: B.o.B Ft. T.I. & Juicy J ‘We Still In This Bitch’

Bob TI Juicy J We Still In This Bitch Cover

When B.o.B returns to his rap roots, he dumbs his music down with unnecessarily vulgar lyrics and uninspiring trap beats. Despite this sacrifice of musicality, the songs are still tolerable. This instance occurs with a cut from his forthcoming mixtape, Fuck ‘Em We Ball. He recruits Hustle Gang leader T.I. and Taylor Gang affiliate Juicy J for “We Still In This Bitch.” The street album is expected to drop on November 15th.

Video: T.I. & Lil’ Wayne ‘Ball’ In New Orleans

TI Lil Wayne Ball

T.I. and Lil’ Wayne is getting the trap back jumpin’…but, this time in the Hollygrove quarters of Wayne’s hometown New Orleans. Directed by Marc Klasfeld, “Ball” serves as the third single from T.I.’s lightly-anticipated album, Trouble Man, and obviously coincides with the sound which pulls elements from throwback New Orleans Bounce-a very rhythmic and tribal subgenre of Hip-Hop/R&B that originated in the area.

Listen: T.I. ‘Dance For You (Remix)’

A year and some change later, T.I. provides a verse from the perspective of Beyoncé’s eager suitor on her steamy single, “Dance For You.” On the unofficial remix, he promises the oiled-up beauty the finer things in life, like scrambled eggs, turkey bacon and freshly-squeezed orange juice.

“I just want to open my arms and embrace you with all that life has to offer,” he describes. “So lay down and receive me, baby.”

T.I. Brushes Off Gucci Mane/Young Jeezy Feud: ‘I Don’t Really See It’

It looks like T.I. has come a long way from the much-referenced mischievous days of his youth, choosing to stay away from the recent clash between two of Atlanta’s other well known emcees-Young Jeezy and Gucci Mane.

In the clip, Tip tells Hot 107.9′s Hot Spot ATL that he’s been approached to work with the likes of Morgan Freeman and Robert Deneiro and also opens up about being a family man, while hustling hard professionally to earn that “Jay” money.
