After months of speculation, VH1 has finally unveiled the official lineup for its Divas celebration. Early reports showed an all-star lineup for a Whitney Houston tribute. Alas, those rumors didn’t hold any weight. However, the roster presented will surely provide for an entertaining show.
Ciara, Kelly Rowland, Jordin Sparks, Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato have been booked to perform. Tributes honoring late legends Whitney Houston and Donna Summer will be featured in the special.

She scored her first major role in Sparkle alongside Whitney Houston, who effortlessly transitioned from singer to actress. Her most recent acting role is alongside singer-actress and fellow ‘Idol’ alum, Jennifer Hudson.
The film,The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete, is being produced by Alicia Keys and follows two inner-city youths left to fend for themselves over the summer after their mothers are taken away by the authorities. Jennifer Hudson has snagged another acting role, following her portrayal as Sister Rosemary in The Three Stooges and Winnie Mandela in Winnie (which hasn’t been released yet). She joins Jeffrey Wright, Anthony Mackie and fellow Idol alum Jordin Sparks in The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete, which is being directed by George Tillman, Jr. and produced by Alicia Keys.

The soundtrack for Sparkle will be released on July 31 via RCA Records. Jordin Sparks, Cee Lo Green and Goapele, who all appear in the film, contributed their powerful voices to the soundtrack. Last evening, Jordin Sparks honored Whitney Houston‘s legacy with a moving rendition of “I Will Always Love You.” Earlier today, Ryan Seacrest premiered “Celebrate,” the last song Houston recorded before her passing.
The jubilant, infectious record was produced by R. Kelly and will appear on Houston and Sparks upcoming movie, Sparkle. The movie, which is a remake of the 1976 musical, is set to release on August 17.
Young Hollywood, there’s another couple on the rise. Pop maestro, Jason Derulo, went on record to confirm his relationship with AI alum, Jordin Sparks, following their denial of a relationship after being spotted at dinner last year.
The confirmation comes as Derulo recovers from a fractured neck, which happened during a performance rehearsal and almost paralyzed him. Derulo is apparently feeling the love, gushing that the Sparkle star set aside time to be at his side; assisting and supporting him.
“We are together,” Derulo confirms. “She lives in Phoenix and she comes [to Miami] and takes care of me, brings me breakfast in bed and she’ll go on walks with me. We’ve gotten closer because of my accident. It’s awesome to have someone you can talk to and she’s a wonderful person.”

Glamour girl of the ‘90s, Whitney Houston, shines in the first official photo of Sparkle, a movie loosely based on The Supremes. She shares the spotlight with her on-camera daughter Jordin Sparks, who portrays the main character – Sparkle.
“She was so cool and very motherly toward me,” says the Idol alum about working with Whitney, 48. “If I ever looked like I needed something, here she came saying ‘Are you okay?’ “
Whitney gushed about the 22-year-old songstress as well.
“Part of the fun of making this movie is definitely the costumes and the hairstyles. The movie is set in 1963, and we had a great wardrobe, hair and makeup person and I loved wearing the outfits.”
Nippy returns to the silver screen as Emma, her first silver screen appearance since ‘96’s The Preacher’s Wife. Sparkle hits theaters Fall 2012, on August 10.
