Epic Records chairman and CEO L.A. Reid was honored at Clive Davis & The Recording Academy’s 2013 Pre-Grammy Gala and Salute to Industry Icons last night at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA.

Clive paid tribute to Whitney Houston, who tragically passed in the very hotel a year prior, by sharing a rare video of his mentee singing “All the Man That I Need” during a tribute concert for the troops. “She was the greatest contemporary singer of our lifetime,” Davis said. He extended an invitation to Whitney’s mother Cissy Houston, but she deemed the gesture “obscene” and refused to attend.

Samsung hosted a Dreamgirls reunion of sorts at their Galaxy “Shangri-La” party in New Orleans. Oscar, Golden Globe and Grammy winners Jennifer Hudson and Jamie Foxx reunited for a duet at the Super Bowl party.

Later today at the Super Bowl, J. Hud will sing “America the Beautiful” with the 26-piece Sandy Hook elementary school chorus. Jennifer is an appropriate choice for the position considering she too survived an unimaginable personal tragedy.

It’s been four years since Jennifer Hudson’s mother, nephew and brother were murdered by William Balfour, the estranged husband of her sister, Julia. Jennifer sat down with Oprah to reflect on some of the gifts her mother left her with and how the loss of her family has impacted her. Her fiancé, David Otunga, joined her during one part of the interview to discuss their future plans as a family.

She even reveals that while filming for Dreamgirls, she was summoned to have her lip injected.

“When I did Dreamgirls I actually had to get my dent right here injected because it was affecting the lighting,” she says pointing at her lip. “When I got it done, the doctor was like: ‘I do not want to do this do you realize people come in here and pay to have the lips you have naturally.’ And I was like: ‘I don’t want to but I have to for the movie!’”
