Trey Songz Speaks On Drake’s Aaliyah Fascination

Trey Songz Wild Interview

Trey Songz is trekking the country in support of Chapter V, which drops on August 21.

During a chat with Nessa of Wild 94.9, Trey spoke on Drake producing an Aaliyah album. In the edited short, he says the best way to go about putting out an Aaliyah album is through Timbaland and Missy Elliot. He also speaks on his good friend’s fascination with the late star.

Elsewhere in the interview, Trey reiterates his desire to collaborate with Beyoncé, impersonates Jay-Z and says Nicki Minaj looks like Chaka Khan.

Drake Claims Aaliyah’s Family Approves New Album

Drake Aaliyah

Although Aaliyah never knew Drake existed, he has convinced himself that with the help of his producer, Noah “40” Shebib, he is the best person to present unheard music from her to the public. Contrary to reports, he claims (until the Haughton family releases a statement saying otherwise, Drake’s comments are mere unconfirmed claims) her family agrees and supports his idea of a posthumous album.

Earlier this year, Aaliyah’s brother, Rashad Haughton, stated “there is no official album being released and supported by the Haughton family.” As we know, legally, they don’t hold any rights to her music, so their input isn’t a prerequisite. However, it would behoove someone trying to release her music to seek the endorsement of those who knew her best.

In an interview with MuchMusic, Drake asserts, “people should be excited” to hear her voice on “13-14 new songs.” Drake realizes fans of Aaliyah would love to hear anything she recorded, so he plays on their emotions. Clearly money isn’t the motive, considering he has acquired a grand amount of success with his suicide-inducing music. He just wants to be known as the ‘guy who released new Aaliyah music to the world following her death’.

Elsewhere in the interview, he deemed himself and 40 as the best men for the job. This is utter disrespect to the people who are known for producing some of her best (official) work, who he “hopes” will get involved with the project.

Let’s put this in perspective: Drake expects Timbaland and Missy to work under him on an Aaliyah album. WTF?

Drake-less Version Of Aaliyah’s ‘Enough Said’ Surfaces

Aaliyah

Days after rumors circulated that Drake would executive produce Aaliyah’s posthumous album, his producer, Noah “40” Shebib, debuted a song, “Enough Said.” Although the chilling song is more Drake than Aaliyah, he’s listed as the featured artist. Nevertheless, it’s quite enjoyable.

Prior to the song’s release, Timbaland candidly spoke out against the possibilities of Drake releasing new Aaliyah material. He said the only proper way to go about presenting new Aaliyah music to the world is if himself and Missy Elliot were involved. Fans, myself included, echoed Tim’s sentiments.

In March, Aaliyah’s brother Rashad released a statement via Twitter denouncing the family’s support of any posthumous album. Producer Jeffrey Walker prompted the statement after excitedly tweeting about his leaked contribution to the forthcoming album.

Drake: ‘Surface R&B Doesn’t Work Anymore’

The guy who decided to covertly diss Chris Brown on an Aaliyah single that was released without her cosent decided to give his opinion on the current state of R&B. Recently, the rapper and occasional audio processed singer said he was the first person to successfully rap and sing, so he is more than qualified to give his take on the dwindling genre.

“Surface R&B doesn’t work any more,” he told Now. “The whole heartthrob thing, songs about unrealistic love and tearing your shirt off every show—that’s not really where it’s at any more. It’s becoming harder for those guys to sell records, and harder for them to succeed.”

“The more you can tap into people’s minds—‘I think that stuff and I’ve just never been able to say it, and this guy just said it for me’—that’s the brand of music that’s winning right now, and that’s a great thing. It just makes for better music to listen to.”

Considering the more mysterious singers, Frank Ocean and The Weeknd, are receiving much more artistic acclaim than the sex symbols, Chris Brown, Usher and Trey Songz, the Canadian mob boss may have a point.

What are your thoughts on Drake’s comment?

Aaliyah Ft. Drake ‘Enough Said’

Aaliyah Drake Enough Said

Drake continues his creepy obsession with the late Aaliyah by releasing a song that will reportedly appear on her posthumous album, which he will executive produce. The melancholic and ethereal “Enough Said” was produced by Noah “40” Shebib.

Obviously Drake’s fixation outweighed Aaliyah’s good friend and producer’s request. Timbaland recently stated that if Drake wanted to do a record with Aaliyah, the right way would be through himself and Missy Elliot.

I know they trying to drop some Aaliyah records, but if he do it, it should be with me and Missy. The proper way for him to do that would be for me, him and Missy to be all on the record. But to put it on his record, would just not be right.

Drake: ‘I Would Deem Myself The First Person To Successfully Rap And Sing’

Drake GQ 2012

Since the launch of his (rap) career, Drake has pranced around as if he sang with the subtle greatness displayed by Marvin Gaye and rapped with emotional conviction displayed by 2Pac. Now, he’s blatantly disrespecting the Lauryn Hills, LL Cool Js, André 3000s, Missy Elliots and Queen Latifahs (the legends) of music.

In a recent interview with The Jewish Chronicle, the Canadian Jew said “There were people who incorporated melody before me, but I would deem myself the first person to successfully rap and sing.”

Meek Mill & Drake Count Their Blessings In ‘Amen’ Video

“I just want to thank God for all for all the pretty women he let into my life, all the Benjamins he let me count, wealth and health, my family and letting me ball on these n*ggas,” recites Meek Mill. The blessings count is lifted from “Amen,” a song from his mixtape, Dreamchasers 2.

Drake, a Canadian-born Jewish rapper who recently celebrated his re-bar mitzvah, followed Meeks empty rhymes with a highly fabricated line about the amount of drugs he imports.

Jeremih croons the infectious hook, but he’s not included in the video. However, every other male urban act makes brow-raising cameos in the video.
