Natina Reed, 32, was killed late Friday (October 26, 2012) after being struck by a car while crossing an Atlanta intersection. Contrary to numerous unconfirmed reports, authorities say the driver called for help, was not in fault and won’t be charged. Also, someone tried to revive Natina on the scene.
Natina was best known for her stint in 90s girl group Blaque, whose biggest hits were “808” and “Bring It All to Me.” Reed was also featured opposite Gabrielle Union in the blockbuster cult classic, Bring It On.
In an eerie coincidence, Reed’s mentor and Blaque’s discoverer, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, also died car crash (2002). The unfortunate event happened two days shy of Reed’s 33rd birthday.
Reed is survived by her 10-year-old son, Tren Brown, whose father is rapper Kurupt, and fellow Blaque members, Shamari “Fears” DeVoe and Brandi Williams.
Shamari and Brandi released a joint statement to US Weekly.
“We are devastated by the loss of our group member, sister and friend Natina Reed. Because of the enormous support of Blaque fans and our love for each another, Blaque officially reunited this fall and we were in the process of working on a new album and a reality show. Natina continuously embodied the pioneering spirit of Blaque and her undeniable creativity touched the hearts of fans everywhere. Natina was a mother, sister, accomplished songwriter, artist and friend. We ask for your prayers at this time for Natina’s family. She will forever be missed and her global influence eternally felt. We thank God for the experiences we shared.”
Kurupt also released a statement.
“Myself and Tren, Natina’s son, would like to thank everyone for their love and support during this tragic time,” he said. “This is a tremendous loss to our family. Natina was a great person and I wish everyone had the opportunity to meet her and know her as I did.”
We send our sincerest condolences to Natina’s family, friends and fans.
Last night the world was changed forever, life will never be the same….she was my sister.
