Introducing…RaVaughn

RaVaughn Love Always Album Sampler

You may have heard the name “RaVaughn” here and there and assumed Raheem DeVaughn condensed his moniker. However, RaVaughn Brown is Ne-Yo’s gorgeous new artist that he has crowned the “New Voice of Women.”

RaVaughn got her start singing background vocals and doing demos for artists like Brandy, Keri Hilson and Keyshia Cole. She was also a session vocalist for Glee. After a late-night recording session, Eman, a decorated producer, coerced her in the studio to sing a demo written by an unnamed writer. Much to her surprise, said writer was Ne-Yo. Eventually, Ne-Yo signed the fresh talent.

Listen: DJ Scream Ft. Future, Wale & Ludacris ‘Cee-Lo’

A catchy hook and a strong bassline are my favorite ingredients in rap songs. Upon first glimpse of DJ Scream’s “Cee-Lo” cover, I knew Future [Vandross] would come through with an incredible auto-tune-laced hook over 808 Mafia’s (Lex Luger and Southside) infectious trap synths. What I did not foresee, however, was a dedication to Cee (no hyphen) Lo Green. After a quick Google search, I learned that “Cee-lo” is actually a Dice game. Go figure.

Wale Gets Jerry Seinfeld For ‘Album About Nothing’

Wale Promo

If his concept albums The Mixtape About Nothing and More About Nothing weren’t indication enough, Wale is teaming up with the man that inspired those themes for The Album About Nothing. In a new video, TV icon Jerry Seinfeld co-signs the DC poet and speaks on how his wife Jessica Seinfeld is a huge Wale fan.

I’m sure this means a lot to Wale. I’m eager to hear the product.

Big Sean Acknowledges Soul Train Awards Win

Often, when prestigious award committees–The Grammys, Oscars, Golden Globes–recognize entertainers, particularly superstars, the entertainers disregard smaller award shows and committees. This is usually warranted, considering the standard-sacrificing lengths some shows undergo in hopes of getting superstars to simply attend, but still unfair to the “not-quite-A-list” entertainers.

While on my picture-less Instagram,I stumbled across a photo of Big Sean holding what I thought was a metallic shoe or something. To my surprise, the caption read: “Soul Train award came in the mail… Boss up ‪#igotsoulhoe.”

To whet the appetite of his steadily rising fan base, DC bred emcee Wale has prepared a set of 21 songs in the form of a mixtape, aptly titled Folarin. Dropping on Christmas Eve, the “fan-inspired” tape features Scarface, frequent collaborator Tiara Thomas, Jhené Aiko, Travis Porter, Chrisette Michele, Trinidad James, 2 Chainz and more.

Listen: Iggy Azalea ‘Boss Lady’

Hustle Gang’s Iggy Azalea is among the female recording artists included on Simone “Boss Lady” Amelia’s compilation mixtape, Woman On Top (12/24).

Meanwhile, the Australian babe sported a green “drugs” cheerleading outfit while chilling backstage at Rita Ora’s Highline Ballroom showcase with Big Sean and Wale. Stream “Boss Lady” and check out some pictures of Iggy and the gang below.

Spotted: Wale Sports adidas Top Ten 2000 ‘Lakers’

If the inclusion of Foamposite and Jordan references in his music wasn’t indication enough, Wale’s Instagram is proof that he may be your favorite sneakerhead’s favorite sneakerhead. His collection of the latest and most rare kicks is possibly unrivaled.

Recently, Mr. Folarin stepped out in a pair of “LA” ultra purple/electricity adidas Top Ten 2000s ($125), shoes worn by 18-year-old Kobe Bryant during his rookie year. They are part of the “Bright Lights, Big City” pack and pay tribute to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Wale Set To Debut Jhené Aiko Collaboration On Forthcoming Mixtape ‘Folarin’

One of the coolest collaborations of the season is afoot and is set to lace the looming mixtape, Folarin, crafted by “Lotus Flower Bomb” emcee, Wale.

With her Def Jam-supported debut LP still in its recording stages, L.A. songbird Jhené Aiko found time to lend her gentle vocals to anticipated record, “Cool Off“, which stands among other tunes designed to rebirth a mixtape sound fans felt omitted his recent MMG efforts.

Listen: Chrisette Michele & Wale Are ‘Rich Hipsters’

A coffee cup-toting Chrisette Michele covered her asymmetrical haircut with a beanie, put on a pair of skinny jeans, colored her lips red and transformed into a “Rich Hipster.” Alas, this doesn’t bring us any closer to understanding the correlation between herself and Audrey Hepburn. Adding insult to injury, she namedropped Hepburn’s fellow fashion icon, Grace Jones, on the corny song.

The divine singer reunited with Wale for the record. Their initial collaboration was on the Maybach Music Group lyricist’s debut album, Attention Deficit.
