J. Cole spoke with MTV and revealed he had the visual treatment for “Power Trip” in mind while writing Born Sinner’s lead single. However, at that moment, he didn’t know it would be Miguel who received the fatality.

Cole admits that his manager Mark Pitts, who signed Miguel and set up their initial collaboration “All I Want Is You,” was hesitant about pitching the idea to Miguel, so he took matters into his own hands and did it himself.
