Snippet: Beyoncé & André 3000 – “Back To Black”

When news broke that Beyoncé and André 3000 would be covering Amy Winehouse’s “Back to Black,” admittedly, I cringed. After listening to the very brief snippet in The Great Gatsby trailer, I realized the potential brilliance of putting a hip hop spin on the record. However, now that I’ve listened to the 90-second snippet, I’m cringing again…uncontrollably.

Wait, more Beyoncé news is occurring.

Pepsi’s pride and joy reunited with André 3000 for a cover of Amy Winehouse’s “Back To Black.” Their version puts a hip hop spin on Amy’s classic and adds some wobbling synths to the beat. A preview of the song can be heard in the trailer for The Great Gatsby, which stars Leonardo DeCaprio and Tobey Maguire.

Jay-Z, who is an executive producer of the film, Emeli Sandé and Florence + The Machine are other names that will appear on the soundtrack.

Fans eager for an OutKast reunion have gotten what they’ve asked for…kind of. Big Boi, the underappreciated half of the legendary duo, adds a verse on Frank Ocean’s “Pink Matter,” which features André 3000. Frank intended for Boi to appear on the original, which is included on Channel ORANGE, but he was busy recording for Vicious Lies & Dangerous Rumors.

Listen: T.I. Ft. André 3000 ‘Sorry’

An Outkast reunion is as likely as the predicted rapture, but it’s quite refreshing to have new records from both halves of the legendary Atlanta duo. And that’s not the only commonality between the two songs; T.I. delivers surprisingly memorable verses on both songs: Trouble Man’s “Sorry” and Big Boi’s Ludacris-assisted “In The A.”

On the former, André 3000 theoretically recalls apologizing to Big Boi for taking an extensive break from the limelight.

This the type of shit that’ll make you call your rap partner and say “I’m sorry I’m awkward–my fault for fuckin’ up the tour/I hated all the attention so I ran from it/Fuck it if we did, but I hope we didn’t lose no fans from it.”

T.I. Talks Recording With André 3000 In Tree Sound Studios

TI Tree Sound Studios

Tree Sound Studios of Atlanta boasts clients ranging from Outkast, Usher and Ludacris, to Whitney Houston, Beyoncé and TLC. T.I.’s André 3000-assisted “Sorry” was conceived in the studio. In a past interview, Tip claimed 3K’s verse is his best outside of an OutKast album. If that doesn’t make you eager about listening to Trouble Man (12/18), I don’t know what will.

André 3000 & Dr. Dre Vibe To Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Don’t Kill My Vibe’ [Video]

Kendrick-Lamar-Promo

Kendrick Lamar hosted a head-nodding studio listening session when playing good kid m.A.A.d city’s dizzy number “Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe” for André 3000 and Dr. Dre. Also, a day prior to the release of the album, K.Dot finally reveals that the “m.A.A.d” acronym stands for “my angry adolescent divided” and “my angel’s angel dust.”

While talking with Carissa Rossi, he said he intended on debuting his album cover, which is a representation of the lifestyle of the title, with the launch of his official Instagram page, but it leaked unexpectedly. He left the interview after Carissa “blondly” revealed she had never heard of Martin.
