Evanescence premieres the video for “My Heart Is Broken,” a single lifted from their eponymous LP. Inspired by 80s fantasy-horror-drama film Paperhouse, light bearer Amy Lee performs the song while flaunting her couture fashion.
Similar to all of their songs, Lee wrote the piano-driven rock ballad from a real-life situation – sex trafficking.
“A good friend of mine heads up an organization in New York that rescues victims of sex trafficking,” Lee tells Kerrang!. “My husband and I got involved and were really moved and horrified. As I was writing the song I was putting myself in that place – what would it be like to be trapped? Threatened? Alone? Unable to tell anyone what was happening because you’re afraid of what would happen?”

After 5 years since their last release, rock group Evanescence is back with a vengeance. Their roaring new song “What You Want” is the lead single from their upcoming self-titled album (due October 11th).
During a Q&A with MTV, Amy Lee & co discussed the creation of “What You Want,” their hiatus and more.
On creating “What You Want.” “On one hand, we had a lot of songs that we all felt like we would like to be singles, but it was a really natural choice [to go with 'What You Want],” Lee told MTV News. “It’s kind of about coming back in some ways, about the fans, about this Evanescence renaissance we’re having. I think it makes sense.”
On hiatus. “I had a little bit of an identity crisis,” Lee admitted of being in and associated with Evanescence since she was a teenager and into her adulthood. “[The success with] ‘Fallen’ happened really fast, and it was just go, go, go for a couple years, and we went right into writing and wrote the next record. By the time we finished touring with ‘The Open Door,’ I just needed to go, ‘Who am I as an adult?’
“But [in taking a step back I realized] this is what I do,” Lee said. “It’s not a character; this is really me. Realizing and getting back to it in a real, fuller way. ‘Oh, I’m in this because I love this and [the band] is a true, real part of me,’ not because it’s a character or something. It just makes me really, really happy to be here.”
