Jennifer Hudson has snagged another acting role, following her portrayal as Sister Rosemary in The Three Stooges and Winnie Mandela in Winnie (which hasn’t been released yet). She joins Jeffrey Wright, Anthony Mackie and fellow Idol alum Jordin Sparks in The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete, which is being directed by George Tillman, Jr. and produced by Alicia Keys.

Deadline reports, the Michael Starrbury-written script follows two inner-city youths left to fend for themselves over the summer after their mothers are taken away by the authorities. Production began today in Brooklyn.

This isn’t the first time the soulful divas have worked together–they appeared in 2008’s The Secret Life of Bees as Rosaleen Daise (Hudson) and June Boatwright (Keys), and they collaborated on J. Hud’s latest album, I Remember Me.
