The wait is over. Beyoncé and André 3000 long-awaited and highly debated take on Amy Winehouse’s “Back to Black” has made its way online, courtesy of Mark Ronson (co-writer of the original).
Wobbling synths introduce the track, and André kick things off with breathy raps. He alters the lyrics to fit the context. 3K is one of the greatest artists to ever step to a mic, but his inclusion is beyond confusing and appalling.
After he sings the hook, a hip hop beat drops and a weeping guitar riff follows. This part of the revised production is refreshing and suggests a much-desired majestic second half.
