While Young Jeezy and Rick Ross were making headlines for all the wrong reasons, Hip Hop’s biggest bully, 50 Cent, was settling differences with his former foe, Fat Joe. The two shared the stage during the BET Hip Hop Awards’ tribute to Chris Lighty, a music exec that took his own life last month.

Revitalizing a Grammy-winning classic is obviously risky–it can serve as an incredible tribute or an appalling reminder of how quality recording artists have declined over the years. Avant represented the former with his take on Christopher Cross’ “Sailing,” the final cut on his 2008 self-titled Capitol Records album.
Initially, after hearing the charming cover, I assumed it was a remake of a hidden gem from Michael Jackson; the velvety smooth vocals and serene visual created by the classical strings and soft guitar were quintessential attributes for MJ’s more romantic songs. For seven years, Terrance J and Rocsi Diaz, held down hosting duties for BET’s 106 & Park-the premier countdown program countdown for urban entertainment. In positions previously held by A.J. Calloway/ Free and Big Tigger/Julissa Bermudez, the two (discovered via BET’s New Faces) interviewed some of our favorite entertainers, shared many laughs with the “livest audience” and even opened up about their personal lives for motivational purposes.
