It was the early 2000s, and an emergence of new female singers ruled the airwaves. Ashanti was among those who surfaced to claim a spot in history with her breakout hit, “Foolish.” Prior to its release, Ashanti appeared on a slew of established artists’ records, including Fat Joe’s 2002 hit, “What’s Luv?.” The song peaked at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, making Ashanti the first female artist to hold the number one (Ja Rule’s “Always On Time”) and number two spot on the chart.
Recently, a slimmer Fat Joe filmed the video for “Pride N Joy” with acclaimed director Hype Williams. Kanye West, Miguel, Mos Def, DJ Khaled, Jadakiss and Busta Rhymes are all featured on the song, which was produced by The Bink!. Ashanti, who is not featured on the song, crashed the set and took a picture with her “What’s Luv?” co-star. ”Uh ohhhhhh me @joeycrackts @roscoedash & @djkhaled I’m always the only girl! Smh,” she tweets.
