Why Chris Brown won’t be at The Grammys?

    Mon, Jan 31st, 2011 |  1 Comment »

Chris Brown recently requested an early lift on Rihanna’s restraining order, partly because “it makes it difficult at award shows and such.” Recently, it has been confirmed that Chris, who is nominated for 3 awards, won’t be attending music’s most acclaimed award show: The Grammys. Wait, there’s more… the restraining order isn’t the problem. One of his representatives, Tammy Brook, says “scheduling conflicts” will be the reason for his absence.

“This court date and the lifting of the restraining order is part of the planned ongoing legal proceedings. The date was scheduled months ago. Chris Brown is very thankful for his Grammy nominations, but due to scheduling conflicts, he will not be attending the Grammys.”- Brook

Swizz Beatz pays tribute to the legendary Fela Kuti. Fela is credited as the pioneer of afrobeat music (a fusion of jazz & funk). The super-producer collaborated with DJ Runna to create a nine-track mashup collection. Some of the songs used are Beyonce’s “Get Me Bodied” and “Check Up On It,” Busta Rhymes’ “Touch It” and Eve’s “Tambourine.”

Watch: 2011′s Celebration of Gospel Performances

    Mon, Jan 31st, 2011 |  1 Comment »

BET’s Celebration of Gospel returned for its 11th year last night! Steve Harvey returned as host and the lineup was rather interesting. Not only were Gospel greats performing, R&B legends also hit the stage. Some felt doing this made the celebration too secular, but personally, I think it made it more watchable. There was also a special tribute to Bishop Walter Hawkins and Albertina Walker.

Below are some of my favorite performances of the evening, sans Whitney Houston and Kim Burrell’s performance. The stand-out performance was performed by the “Gospel Dreamgirls”: Jessica Reedy, Y’Anna Crawley, Leandria Johnson, Chante Moore and Kelly Price. Read More

Whitney Houston & Kim Burrell performs “I Look To You” at BET’s Celebration of Gospel

Legendary superstar Whitney “The Voice” Houston performed her R. Kelly-penned song, “I Look To You,” at BET’s Celebration of Gospel. The annual event was recorded last month. She performed the uplifting anthem with her good friend Kim Burrell.

Kim sang beautifully, and Nippy did surprisingly well. She isn’t effortlessly hitting the notes as she once did; however, she managed to move the audience. It’s refreshing to see Whitney back in her element, doing what she loves. Read More
