Previously mystic and still largely unfamiliar, Ryan McDermott is the latest act to join the G.O.O.D. Music imprint and the fourth singer behind John Legend, Mr. Hudson and Teyana Taylor. Intentionally so, this clique undoubtedly takes great influence from Soul; each act bearing a unique tone that would only compliment great material.
That’s our stance with McDermott. Sure his voice isn’t incredibly remarkable, but paired with simply effective production in songs like his debut record, “Paradise“–it works.
The USC graduate is next to bat, likely to find himself included on Cruel Winter, Kanye West’s follow-up compilation to Cruel Summer. The rumor mill says Q-tip is finally getting his just due on the project in addition to the Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter/producer.
Take a look at McDermott’s accompanying visual for “Paradise”, shot by “Dr. Romanelli” (Darren Romanelli). This track is lifted from his forthcoming mixtape, Ryan vs. The Sandman: The Tale of the Sleepwalkers, which has no set release date as of yet.
