Labels, the Grammys and Billboard may be on an covert mission to sabotage R&B, but this won’t deter conscious artists from getting their music to the masses. Marsha Ambrosius is one of those artists who are well-informed on various marketing strategies and consistently uses them to her advantage. She brought attention around her first solo album by name-dropping Kim Kardashian, followed by socially conscious videos.
She does something similar with her blunt new song, “F*ck N Get It Over With,” which is expected to appear on her sophomore LP, Friends & Lovers. If the crude title doesn’t capture your attention, the video is sure to pick up the slack.
In the Erica D. Hayes & J. Erving-directed video, Marsha finds herself on the wrong side of a love song. Her current relationship is doomed, but before she moves on, she wants to have sex with her lover one last time. I won’t spoil the ending, but it’s as surprising as the ending of a Ronald Isley/R. Kelly video or a Scandal episode.
