Kanye West followed in the brilliant path created by his ‘big brother’ Jay-Z, and apparently ‘Ye is confident that Big Sean will do the same after him. The three entities join forces for “Clique,” a bummer featured on Cruel Summer.
“Clique” is yet another ego-stroking rap song with empty lyrics and a repetitive chorus. Sean and Shawn tried to follow the presumed concept of the song and boast on people in their cliques, but the urgency to talk about oneself overwhelmed them.
Kanye, on the other hand, barely mentioned anyone outside of himself. Surprised? He briefly spoke on falling into a state of depression after the untimely passing of his mother. Though potent, this portion of the verse was clearly off topic and did not mesh with the theme at all.
Cruel Summer arrives in a few weeks (September 18th), and I predict that upon its release, the album title will become literal.
