Nicki Minaj, the brainchild behind hood lullabies “Sh*itted On Em” and “Stupid Hoe,” is quite concerned about health care justice in the United States.
Last night, news broke that Yvette Wilson had passed away after a battle with cervical cancer. Like many other Moesha and The Parkers fans, Nicki was devastated by the news, and chose to use her high-profile Twitter account for something worthwhile.
Minaj brought up the highly debated health care topic because at the time of Wilson’s death, she was unable to afford medical treatment. Nicki is sure that at the peak of Wilson’s career, the government took millions from her, but in her time of need, they were “nowhere to be found.” She even questioned President Barack Obama, which led to a significant amount of backlash. She subsequently deleted her tweets, but I have a transcribed her stance verbatim.
@BarackObama I just don’t understand why people have to worry about their “medical bills” while they’re on their DEATH BEDS Mr. President.
@BarackObama I wouldn’t mind the millions they took if it were going to health care. Why should a poor person struggle to pay for MEDS sir?
That should be a God given right! Even with Obama Care, too much involved. Just give FREE health care to all. @BarackObama What can we do? [Source]
Other than her comments regarding Obama Care [because I don't know the specific provision(s) she's referring to], I agree with her. I think her seemingly sarcastic tone is what upset people.
