Mary J. Blige has gifted the world with timeless tunes and classic visuals. Now, she plans on extended her music know-how to emerging artists. The “Mr. Wrong” soulstress has launched her own record label, Matriarch Entertainment (distributed through Interscope), with singer-songwriter Starshell as the first signee.

Starshell, 23, is a funky pop singer with an impressive writing background. She co-penned Kanye West’s “Love Lockdown,” from 808s & Heartbreak, and Mary J’s “Color,”from the Precious soundtrack. She’s affiliated with Lady Gaga’s producer and discoverer, Fernando Garibay and Vincent Herbert.

Equipped with a powerful team, Starshell is ready to focus on her solo career, starting with her debut, Liberation. Party anthem “Birthday Girl” is the first offering. The feel-good record is a good reintroduction (Starshell premiered her 80′s-inspired “Superluva” in 2010).
