DMX isn’t one to mince words. During a sit-down–well DMX stood the entire time–with Power 105′s The Breakfast Club, X spoke on his decline from the industry, his thoughts on current rap heavyweights and newcomers.
When explaining his decline, he says his contribution to Def Jam wasn’t met with just promotion after Jay-Z became president of the label.
“I see what’s really good. You trying to eliminate the competition. At first you retire, then get me off the label and now you’re back rapping again,” he claimed. “That was just some bullshit. You know what it is. That was getting rid of the competition.”
Eventually, Angela, Envy and Charlamagne asked X about the current state of rap and his thoughts on lyrical rappers in the game. Although he’s impressed by Machine Gun Kelly and J. Cole, the same can’t be said for Young Jeezy, Rick Ross and X’s friend, Lil’ Wayne.
“I’m just not impressed,” he said when asked about Rick Ross’ lyrical skill. “He’s ight. He talks about eating and girlfriends too much. How much can a nigga eat?!”
He was then asked “did he like Drake,” where he freely responded, “No,” without any hesitation. He quickly elaborated, openly stating he doesn’t like anything about the Canadian singer.
“I don’t like anything about Drake. I don’t like his fucking voice. I don’t like what he talks about. I don’t like his face. I don’t like the way he walks. Nothing! I don’t like his haircut. I might just… let me shut up! I’ll just stop right there.”
