A somber ambiance filled the video set of “It All Belongs To Me,” a duet between R&B veterans Brandy and Monica.
Mo tweeted two photos from the set, one of which she wore a shirt with her idol, Whitney Houston, on the front. She accompanied the photo with this message: “First shot of It All Belongs To Me video…I’m smiling because I know my angel is with me❤Luv U 4ever Nippy.”
E! was on set to interview the lovely ladies, and of course, speak on their departed friend.
Monica, who was discovered singing Whitney’s “Greatest Love of All,” recounted her memories of Houston. Every night on tour, Monica tributed Houston. She reveals Whitney embraced her at a young age, because she saw herself in Monica. Houston even invited Mo onstage during some tourstops.
“She told me, ‘I never met anybody that I saw myself in,’” Monica recounted. “And the fact that I was signed and discovered singing ‘The Greatest Love of All,’ you know…it’s just been a rough week, overall. But I recognize that she and I both, outside of music, had a lot in common. And our love for God and our belief in Christ was one of those things and it’s kept me strong and kept me fighting for what it is she loved, and that is family first, music and the rest is second.”
Monica also recalled Whitney crashing their rehearsal and jokingly calling her out for stealing her runs. Like Monica, Brandy also idolized Whitney. Brandy, on the other hand, had a hard time discussing Houston.
Houston’s death date is Brandy’s birthdate. The singing divas starred opposite each other in 1997′s Cinderella. Also, Brandy’s brother has been romantically linked to Whitney for years.
Prior to her shocking demise, Houston crashed an interview with Brandy, Monica and Clive Davis. With wet hair (that concerned Monica), she showered the trio with hugs and kisses. Before leaving, she gave Brandy a special note and made her daughter, Bobbi Christina, hug her “godfather.”
Fighting back emotions, Brandy says she won’t reveal the letter’s contents for personal reasons. “It’s just so unfortunate. Whitney meant everything to me—everything. She’s the reason that I sing. It’s crazy, so crazy,” she says.
