Brandy Norwood’s sixth studio album is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated R&B sets of this year. The skilled songstress and actress has been in the studio with some of today’s hottest producers and songwriters, including: Rico Love, Frank Ocean, Bangladesh and Chris Brown. Now B-Rocka is hoping Drizzy Drake will put his OVO stank on it, revealing that the Young Money cash king has already written something for her.
“Actually I might be doing a song that Drake wrote for the album this upcoming week,” she teased.”
The buzzed-about duet with Brandy and Monica is already in the works and its producer, Rico Love, goes in to detail about the record below…
“It was Monica’s idea originally because Monica heard the record and she was so excited about it. She was like, “Yo, I really think that this should be that thing, that next duet.” Then [RCA Records executive] Peter Edge and [Chameleon Records CEO] Breyon Prescott put it together.”
“It’s a very soulful R&B song with pop sensibilities. I wanted to make sure I made it a classic R&B record, but I definitely wanted to make sure that it had enough appeal to cross over and become a Top 40 record. I wanted to include Beatles-sounding guitars. I made sure the melody was big enough for all genres and just a strong powerful vocal performance and strong content. I really don’t wanna give away too much because they wanna keep it under wraps as far as the title and the subject, but I can just say that it’s a very strong vocal that I got out of these girls and it’s a very strong subject. To say the least, it will be a shocker.”
Drake showed his R&B finesse on his latest album, Take Care, so it’s no doubt that he’s capable of penning a masterpiece with one of today’s most gifted vocalists. As far as the Monica duet goes, it can pan out two ways…the record can deliver as dated and forgettable or it can come across genuine and well-crafted.
