As oddly as it comes, Reed Between The Lines, has a spin-off series in the works called, Young Man On Campus. “Like ‘Em All” singer and actor, Jacob Latimore, is casted in the lead role as Jacob Matthews–the precocious 15-year old who’s a sophomore college student.
Shadow And Act reports,
“Latimore will first guest star on an episode (or two or three) of Reed Between the Lines, which centers on a married couple (Ross is a psychologist and Warner is an English professor) and their lives with their three children. His guest starring role will introduce his character – the precocious Jacob Matthews, a 15-year-old who’s way too smart for his grade level; and instead of hanging out in homeroom with the rest of his 9th grade mates, he’s a sophomore incollege, where the series will primarily takes place, with Jacob’s life as a teen savant at its center.”
Latimore toured with Diggy Simmons and Mindless Behavior on the SCREAM Tour NXG (Next Generation). The show is comparable to Disney’s Smart Guy or ABC’s Doogie Howser, M.D. (for the 80s babies)…will BET deliver with their scripted series? The show will air sometime this year.
That’s not the only original BET is bringing, Larenz Tate, Tawny Cypress and Aisha Hinds will star in Gun Hill, a police drama flick that’s written and directed by Reggie “Rock” Bythewood. Don Kurt teams up with Bythewood as executive producers, after working together on FOX’s New York Undercover.
“The project is also being considered, among other made for TV projects, for a full series as a push to bring more scripted television to the network,” BET reports.
Tate, 36, talks with Variety about the film…
“I was so pleasantly surprised when I heard that BET was moving into a genre that I thought they should be in for the longest time,” Tate told Variety. They have an incredible audience that is loyal and supportive. I think these movies are going to serve that audience very well.”
