Wale takes us behind-the-scenes as he hits the booth with his Blackberry to record the ambitious “Lotus Flower Bomb,” lifted from his upcoming sophomore album Ambition. The hip-hop love song features the soulful Miguel, who recorded the song on location with Mr. Folarin – something quite rare in 2011.
In the clip, Wale explains the meaning behind the song and its title.
“One of the few things I did get a chance to learn while in college was about the Greek gods. The lotus flower is what got you inebriated. This girl I dated wore ‘Flower Bomb’ all the time and every time I could remember her smell. Girls wear perfume all the time, but that’s one that stuck to me for some reason.”
The Maybach Music Group representer also spoke on what inspired him to record a track for the ladies.
“A lot of females don’t feel like they are being spoken to, they feel like they are being spoken at on a lot of rap records. That’s cool, but there has to be a balance because I was speaking at them on ‘No Hands’ but now I’m speaking to them. It’s really a conversation, you don’t really hear it like a song.”
