“California Girls” singer Katy Perry expressed her excitement for an impressive 9 MTV Video Music Awards nods via Twitter.
“OMG! I just got word that I’m nominated for 9 MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS!!! I’m kinda speechless/nervous/turned on! I can’t sleep…I’m so excited… It feels like every birthday/christmas/first kiss I ever had. Thanks so much for believing in me. I owe u.”
She continued by tweeting her bewilderment regarding the absence of fellow pop stars Rihanna, Jessie J, Taylor Swift, Ke$ha and Robyn.
“I do miss my RiRi, (s&m) Swifty, (back to dec) Kesha (blow) & Robyn (every vid!) Jessie J, (pricetag) in the/any categories #ohmanitstough.”
Carefree Rihanna doesn’t seem affected by the snub; after being informed (via Twitter) she wasn’t nominated, she responded by saying: “Cuz I’m black b*tch.” The fan later deleted their Twitter account.
Last November, Rihanna released Loud, her fifth studio album. So far, the album has spawned five videos: “Only Girl (In The World),” “What’s My Name?,” “S&M,” “California King Bed” and “Man Down.” Two of those videos – “S&M” and “Man Down” – are arguably the most controversial videos of the year. Is this why MTV shut Rihanna out?
Kanye West leads the nominees with 11 nominaitons, trumping Rihanna’s race card; however, the question still stands: why isn’t any of the red head’s videos nominated?
