New York street thug turned international Hip-Hop superstar/mogul 50 Cent continues to make his mark on music history. The G-Unit proprietor’s first album Get Rich Or Die Tryin’ has hit the 8 times platinum mark this week, 8 years after it’s debut in February 2003.
The G-Unit generals’ most recent feat makes GRODT the fourth best-selling rap album off all time, only behind his mentor Eminem’s The Marshall Mathers LP which has moved 10,341,000 copies, and The Eminem Show, that has sold 9,928,000 CD’s. 50 also comes in slightly behind St Louis rapper Nelly’sCountry Grammar which currently stands 8,489,000 copies sold since its release in 2000.
In 2003, Get Rich Or Die Tryin’ debuted at number one on charts selling 872,000 units in its first week on store shelves, and was certified 6 times platinum by the RIAA by the end of the release year.
50’s Cent’s fifth studio album, Black Magic, is expected to drop sometime this summer.
Let’s commemorate this occasion by listening to my favorite song from the album, “Patiently Waiting,” featuring Eminem.
